The word immigrant to so many like me, it signifies someone with a dream; a dreamer. I am Nancy Mulemwa Siisii. I was born and raised in Zambia, Africa, but I later migrated to America and settled in New York where I’ve been living for 20 years. As a dreamer, I have and continue to have a passion for making substantive bonds with audiences, and helping to inspire people to reach for their dreams. Being an immigrant has been one of the most challenging and extraordinary experiences of my life. It inspired me to start my podcast “Concrete Pastures: An African Immigrant Story” as a platform to reach out to fellow immigrants and dreamers.

Hello fellow dreamers and immigrants. I imagined coming to America based on what I saw on TV, in the movies, musical videos etc. Hollywood had done an amazing job of selling it to me. My first job in the US, I worked as a Nanny/housekeeper. I took care of five children ages 6 months to 7 years old. This by far was the most excruciating job i have ever had.

Whether your country is at war or not, War is something that affects all of us. War destroys infrastructures, communities and most importantly families. At 7 years old Lydia was forced to leave her home country Angola to live with family members in Zambia. Lydia shares her journey while in Zambia,
-She talks about feeling aboundoned by her parents.
-She shares how she felt out of place in her home country (Angola)
-We also talk about her journey in Namibia
Today Lydia lives in the USA where she works as a nurse. Her soul purpose is to empower other single moms struggling with shame of single motherhood to break free and step into their God given purpose and find fulfillment.

She is a CLORE fellow and redefines what it means to use one’s passions for the highest good. Muma believes in not limiting herself she thrives on creativity. She is CEO of Krypia an African Fintech providing financial services to SMEs in the informal sector. She also owns AAFS the first immersive investment art platform dedicated to increasing the value of African art for the savvy collector. Muma most enjoys using her skills to empower women to take up space. She is an executive leader in Africa and UK, she continues to use her skills & influence in niche sectors such as mining and international development. She has advised at The Parliamentary Internet, Communications and Technology Forum on the imminent need for black women in positions of decision making to curb inequality in the tech sector. She is a speaker on multiple international stages, such as the Oxford Union and also a board-member on two charities promoting the use of technology and business skills for disadvantaged women.

Mr Rodger Chali took us to the US and Canada, shared his journey on adjusting to the new unknown which was not easy. We also celebrated his achievements.
He gave us some key points: Understand why you are making the move to another country.
If you have money, try to bring at least three months of rent or so
Be open to doing anything ,job wise.
Once you establish yourself ,give back to your home country in your own way. Build the country you want your children and grandchildren to be proud off.
